Johnson County Parks

After years of battling maintenance costs, and desiring to increase park attendance through new and interesting activities, the Park Department engaged Mader Design to complete a park and facility assessment and master plan for their two parks, Johnson County Park and the Hoosier Horse Park, and Independence Park. We began by completing assessments of each of the parks and all facilities within each park. With that as a guide, we conducted several public and stakeholder group meetings, engaging all of the many unique and diverse interests in the park. The feedback provided a list of needs and desires to help guide the future development of the park. Working with Park staff and board members, we provided multiple options and recommendations for better establishing park identity, attracting new park visitors through new and unique experiences, expanding on revenue generating opportunities, enhancing equestrian facilities, establishing more habitat areas throughout the park, and reducing long and short term maintenance for both Johnson County Park and Independence Park.
