Hazel Dell Christian Church Children’s Ministry Expansion

Mader Design served as the landscape architect for the addition of the Children’s Ministry wing at Hazel Dell Christian Church. We worked closely with the design team, owner, and the City of Carmel throughout the project. The design of the hardscape layout compliments the building while the landscape accentuates the combination of rectilinear and curvilinear forms mixed with strong contrasting materials. With the Children’s Ministry and preschool it was important to integrate interior and exterior spaces - connecting outdoor instructional space with a new playground and seating areas in a safe and secure environment. The design also provides an educational opportunity by integrating a bioswale with native plants that serves as natural water quality feature. Additional projects have included future master planning for the campus as well as the implementation of a new parking lot on the south end of the site preparing for future building expansion.

The end result is a varied and interesting landscape that seamlessly extends the existing campus . It provides an interesting environment focusing on education, recreation, and spirituality.
