Greenwood Sports Park
The City of Greenwood will build a new sports complex on land that was acquired after the construction of a new interchange at Worthsville Road and Interstate 65. The City partnered with Mader Design to complete master planning efforts and assist with budgeting efforts so they could coordinate a funding plan for implementation. Mader Design has been engaged to lead the design process, development of construction documents, and to see the project through construction, which is slated to begin in 2021.
The central area of the park will feature two quads of baseball/softball fields (225’ and 300’ fields), with artificial turf infields and natural grass outfields, maximizing playability while managing budget expectations. Each quad includes a pressbox and concessions buildings, restrooms, batting cages, shaded seating areas, and warm-up areas, with access to playground equipment, and fully accessible parking and pathways. This site will provide the City with the opportunity to host tournaments and be an excellent stop for traveling leagues, while also serving their local adult and youth leagues.
The North end of the site will serve as a public park. Here, patrons will enjoy a large splash pad and playground, picnic shelters and public restrooms, along with a large playing field suitable for soccer and football, and a naturalized area with trails connecting to the adjacent neighborhoods and schools.
The Greenwood Sports Park will provide much needed park amenities for the growing southeast part of the City, as well as create a regional destination park, potentially drawing visitors from across the Midwest, that will increase tourism and economic activity in the region.
